Celebrating the New Year · Happy New Year’s Day

news

New Year’s Day, January 1st of the Gregorian calendar, is widely recognized as the “New Year” across most countries. In Chinese, “Yuan” means the beginning, and “Dan” refers to day; thus, “Yuandan” signifies “the first day of the year.” The term has ancient origins in China, first documented in the Book of Jin.

The popularity of “Yuandan” grew during the Republic of China era. In 1911, the Xinhai Revolution ended both the Qing Dynasty and over 2,000 years of feudal rule, as well as the traditional Chinese chronology system. This ushered in a dual-calendar period, combining the Western solar calendar with the Chinese lunar calendar. With the adoption of the Gregorian calendar, January 1, 1912, was designated as New Year’s Day, marking the start of the Republic of China’s first year.

As time progresses and new chapters unfold, we welcome the 2026 New Year’s Day amid the warm winter sun. Huayan, Hainan extends sincere wishes for a joyful New Year’s Day and happiness to all families. In the coming year, may we continue to unite, forge ahead collectively with greater momentum, and create a brighter future through pragmatic dedication and commitment!元旦
